Exhaustion & Burnout

Understanding Exhaustion and Burnout in the Teaching Profession

Teaching, as a profession, is particularly vulnerable to exhaustion. Studies show that educators often face excessive job demands, role conflicts, inadequate rewards, and a mismatch between their personal values and those of their institution. These external stressors, combined with individual factors such as age, education level, and coping mechanisms, can lead to burnout. Younger teachers, those with higher education, and individuals with lower emotional stability are at greater risk. Perfectionism, especially social perfectionism, where individuals set high standards influenced by societal expectations, can further exacerbate the problem.
